Fennel is a common and popular cooking ingredient as well as a powerful medicinal herb used in the Mediterranean region.
Rich in potassium, dietary fiber, and folic acid, the bulb of the fennel plant is a concentrated source of vitamin C while its extracted oil is an excellent antioxidant which can strengthen your immune system, prevent the development of cancer in your body, and reduce your potential for inflammation.
5 Fennel Juice Benefits
Fennel’s slightly sweet flavor – described by most people as similar to anise or licorice – has made it a well-liked juicing vegetable. Many fennel juicing aficionados consider the plant’s bulb as the best part for its purpose but there are some who add the other parts, too. The bulb is chopped or sliced coarsely before putting in the juicer and is often joined by pieces of carrots, pears, and apples.
Admittedly, the bulb contains the most health benefits but some recipes include using the leaves, stalks, and even the flowers sometimes.
And while most of us are more familiar with fennel in salads, soups, salsas, and dips, this naturally-crunchy vegetable’s sweet taste does very well as a standalone ingredient in juice.
It doesn’t hurt that fennel has a wide range of health benefits, either; just take a look at these 5 fennel juice benefits:
BENEFIT #1 - Increase Production of Breast Milk
Breastfeeding women will have their milk production significantly increased during lactation when they consume fennel juice at this time.
Incidentally, the flavonoids in fennel juice can increase the breast size of a woman even if she is not lactating. This occurs because new cells as well as tissues are formed with the increase in the amount of estrogen that acts as both tonic and stimulant.
BENEFIT #2 - Reduces Blood Pressure
As a rich source of the mineral potassium, fennel juice acts as your body’s vasodilator, meaning it gets rid of the tension which may be present in your blood vessels that can increase the level of your blood pressure.
When your blood pressure increases, your risk for a stroke, heart attack or developing artherosclerosis increases as well.Additionally, increased blood pressure levels can make insulin management difficult.
This can be a game changer for diabetics whose glucose levels tend to teeter at dangerous levels that could cause many potentially lethal complications.
A single serving of fennel juice daily will pump the body with a chock-full of potassium that cannot only maintain normal levels of your blood pressure but protect your heart and your entire cardiovascular system as well.
BENEFIT #3 - Acts as a Diuretic
Fennel has natural diuretic properties; it goes without saying that these same properties are also in its juice.
Drinking fennel juice on a regular basis removes a significant amount of toxic waste and other similar substances from your body when you urinate frequently.
This, in turn, helps to reduce any inflammation which may be caused by swelling, a.k.a. edema, and rheumatism.
BENEFIT #4 - Protects the Eyes
The antioxidants and amino acids found in fennel juice prevent premature aging of your visual function; they also rejuvenate your eyesight by protecting your eyes from director indirect disorders associated with muscular degeneration in that area.
When applied on your eyes, fennel juice may help in the reduction of eye irritations as well as provide relief from fatigue for your tired eyes.
BENEFIT #5 - Rebalances Digestive Flora
When your digestive tract has an imbalance of its intestinal flora, excessive flatulence occurs. Fennel juice can help reduce the amount of bad bacteria that upsets your intestinal balance by increasing the number of good bacteria that reside as part of your body’s digestive flora.
Additionally, drinking fennel juice daily promotes regularity of bowel movement, which is actually another way of re balancing your digestive tract.

How to Juice Fennel
One of the things you will have to decide on before you juice fennel, is whether to remove the fennel’s core at its bulb’s base or not. Known as the ”heart” of the bulb, this part is usually removed before cooking since its texture is fibrous and tough.
But because you are juicing, you may want to leave this core intact for further extraction of its juice. 1) Give your fennel a good, thorough washing before you start juicing.
To ensure that all dirt, surface pesticides, sand, and other small particles have been removed, 2) place your fennel in a container filled with one cup white vinegar and a couple of tablespoons of sea salt and let it soak for 15 minutes.
Depending on the kind of juicer you have, you may have to 3) chop the fennel bulb into small pieces before placing them into the feed chute of your juicer.
If your juicer’s feed chute is wide and large you can have the entire bulb into it all at once to start juicing. 4) A medium-sized bulb (which could be the size of a fist) will typically yield between three and four inches of fennel juice, a sufficient amount to obtain the fennel’s recommended nutrients.
